Spelling Word Practice

Worthy of the Prize has this great new link party every Monday called Mom 2 Mom. Each week they share one of their "mommy-tips" and then you link-up one of your "mommy-tips." Absolutely love their tip this week about the ABC Scripture!

Here's a little tip that works for us for practicing spelling words. At the start of the week we write out each spelling word on an index card. We use them for flash cards but when we are done flashing, (hehe) we hang them with clothespins on a string, in our living room.

This puts them right there in your face in one of the busiest rooms in the house.

My kiddo sees them everyday, several times a day and it really does help! I catch him looking at them all the time!
This also allows us to easily test and work with him. No need to have to remember to practice or to stop and drop what you are doing to find your spelling words. They literally are right there in your face! Works for us!!!

Lets Bring Brady Home {Part One}

* UPDATE - Have you checked out the current list of prize package contributors in the left sidebar?  You could win some great gifts from these fantastic sponsors while helping to bring this sweetie home!

You see this sweet boy?
This is Brady and he needs a family.

You see this lovely family?
They are the Hartmans and they want to bring Brady home and make him part of their family!

This boy NEEDS this family! Lets help him get HOME!

Brady has down syndrome and because of this he was abandoned at birth like the majority of children with any sort of disabilities in Eastern Europe and other parts of the world. It is standard procedure when these children turn 4-6 years old (depending on region) they are transferred from Orphanages to full blown Mental Institutions.

Brady has already been transferred.

I believe that people are genuinely good and people genuinely want to do good. I believe this wholeheartedly which is why I am hoping, praying and asking this:

Will YOU help the Hartmans bring Brady home?

Do you have a neat product that you make or sell? Do you have a website or etsy shop? Can you make, create, craft, sew, etc.? We need your products!!!

All of your creative, lovely, awesome products will be combined into one grand prize package! This package will then be up for grabs to those that can make a small $5 donation to Brady's and the Hartman's adoption fund. Each $5 donation = 1 entry!

PLEASE think about it, pray about it, spread the word about it and ask yourself

Can I help bring Brady home?

Please contact me HERE or via the contact page above if you can donate a new/unused product. Please send others this way that can donate a product. Flood my inbox with donations for Brady!

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spread the word about this by posting it to your blog, facebook, twitter, email or other. Grab the button below!

Copy and paste into your website or blog.

To learn more about the Hartmans visit their blog HERE.  And their sponsor/donation page HERE.

More to come on Brady soon!

Sooo Yummy! This is the recipe my mom has used for years! I made them just last week and they were perfect!

1 cup butter
2 tsp. water
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 cup chopped nuts

Mix all ingredients together. Refrigerate for 4 hours. Roll into small balls and drop on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool. Roll in powdered sugar.

Super easy and super good!

Have you checked out the post about Brady? We still need your donated items! So while you're out this weekend pick up something for Brady or get to crafting cause we need them by 2/28!

Also the giveaway for the Shabby Apple Dress is HERE! Be sure to enter that too if you haven't already!
Have a good weekend my friends!

Potato Stamp - How To

Monday, February 7, 2011

One of the activities on our Valentine Countdown Cards is to make potato stamps, then use those stamps to create Valentine cards. I am SURE most all of you know how to do this but thought I'd share how we do it.

Cut a large potato in half.
Take whatever shape cookie cutter you want to use and push it into the potato. Cookie cutter should be smaller than the potato.
With cookie cutter still in place carefully cut around the potato. Keeping the cookie cutter in place will protect your shape from getting cut off.
 Remove area that you cut.
Remove cookie cutter and carefully cut away/peel potato that is near the shape. Round and smooth the edges.
 Add paint and stamp!
Stamp away!!

Have you done any of the Valentine Countdown Activity Cards? We also had lots of fun planting the seeds! The boys were totally into it!

Valentine Countdown Activity Cards {Download}

Hello! Today I have the activity cards to go with yesterday's countdown envelopes. There are a couple of extra cards in there so you have a bit of a selection. Download and print in a 4x6 size to be sure they fit in your envelopes. You could have them printed at a photo lab if you like that type of finish or I also suggest using card-stock.

If you missed the envelopes yesterday get them HERE.
Enjoy! I'd love to know if you use them.

Valentine Countdown {Download/Printable}

With Valentine's Day just around the corner what better way to teach your children (or remind yourself) about love? I've created this Valentine Countdown for my kiddos and thought I'd share with you!
Lovely numbered envelopes perfect for stuffing
 perfect for counting down
until one more day til Valentine's Day!
What's even more special is what's inside. Sure we've got treats and love notes, but every other day there is an activity or thing to do that deals with love and a bible verse that pertains to it.

We hung ours on a line with clothes pins but you could just as easily put them in a bowl or where ever!

The envelopes will need to be printed and cut and glued. It's pretty basic but if you need help please ask. To get red and white like pictured above print out 2 sets of envelopes, one set on red paper and one set on white. These download in a zip file that you will have to extract after downloading.

The card on the right is designed with a spot to attach a small candy (heart marks the spot). Print it as a 4x6.

Special thank you to The Graphics Fairy for the frame images on the envelopes! Enjoy!
