Hello thrifty people! It's that time again! Time to share your thrifty treasures for the week. I want to thank those of you that took a moment to share your selling tips last week. What I got from it is that etsy requires a bit of patience. I guess you have to build a presence there and a following (???) I guess you can call it.

Here are a couple of my recent finds starting with this vintage bar set.

These vintage mugs are pretty neat too. I love that little pedestal base!

These are listed in my vintage etsy shop if anyone is interested. I love checking out what you all pick up! It inspires me to get out there. I do check out every link, I don't always comment (especially now that summer is in full swing) but know that I do come by and appreciate you linking! Okay so today I am asking for some pointers on selling your vintage or thrifted items. I have always sold my handmade jewelry on my website and rarely on etsy or any other site like that. I have started selling a few jewelry items on etsy to get the hang of it but am mostly using that for my thrifted, vintage items. Got any etsy pointers for a newbie?

It has been a very slow start on etsy. I am trying to keep my prices reasonable but at the same time I want it to be worth my while or what's the point right? I am being careful to charge actual shipping costs or real close to it because frankly I don't like it when the seller is making money off of the shipping. I think I am using good photos and descriptions. One thing I know I can work on is adding more product!

I have also done a few things on ebay in the past and a few just recently and have to say I have had better luck over there. I was quite shocked at the amount of their fees though. Not the listing fee which was free but the final sale fees! Yikes!

I have checked out some of your shops and I can tell from your sales that your items are selling. If you don't mind sharing, give us some pointers. PLEASE :)

Here's a few thrifty things I have picked up recently. They are available in my vintage etsy shop if anyone is interested. First is this fun and funky ice bucket. In my favorite color! Picked this up at that church yard sale. I love that sale!

I also picked up these forks. Don't you just love those colors?

Last I'll share this vintage Pyrex measuring cup.

²⁵ On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁶ “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

²⁷ He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

²⁸ “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

²⁹ But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

³⁰ In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. ³¹ A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. ³² So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. ³³ But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.³⁴ He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

³⁶ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

³⁷ The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” {Luke 10:25-37}

Ah, the infamous Good Samaritan story. Isn't it interesting that Jesus used the example of a Samaritan to teach a Jewish man about kindness? Remember I told you here that the Jews despised the Samaritans?

Moreover, the passage tells us that this Jewish man was an "expert in the law" which means he was probably one of the religious leaders of the day. What an insult to have a Samaritan man exalted above himself.

And yet, I believe Jesus did it on purpose, to show that kindness and humility go hand in hand. In order to truly serve others, you must humble yourself.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

but made himself nothing,

taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,

he humbled himself

and became obedient to death—

even death on a cross! 

{Philippians 2:5-8}

Family Activity for the Week...

Together as a family, or each family member individually, perform one random act of kindness this week. Do something nice for a complete stranger. Pay for the meal of the person in line behind you in the drive-thru. Make cookies and leave them on the doorstep of someone in your neighborhood. Send an anonymous note of encouragement to someone who needs uplifting. Or leave an unmarked envelope of cash in the mailbox of someone who could use a little extra money. Hey friends, welcome back for this weeks Thrifty Love! Real quick, I have a giveaway going on through Sunday. Two winners will each get 2 Pretty Rose Necklaces. One for yourself and one for a friend! Come enter.

So check out what I picked up this week! Can you say awesome?! I have been wanting a vintage wooden office chair, and have passed up many because of condition. But this one only has a few minor issues. Mostly in that wicker seating area which I plan on doing away with anyway.

I would kind of like to see it white but cringe at the idea of painting over nice wood. Yucky wood or plywood fine, nice wood no! At the same time I dislike it as is so I'm thinking a colored wood stain. Have you seen the many colors now available? Or maybe a whitewash so you can still see the wood grain. And though I am kinda diggin' that two tone seat I am thinking that whole area from the white line forward will be cushy upholstery cause I need some cushy for my tushy lol!

 

So what color would you do it? Any thoughts? I'd love to hear them. Oh and guess how much? $6.75 out the door on sale day! Love sale day!

Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."

When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's son may be glorified through it." Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days. - John 11:1-6

Has this ever happened to you? You cry out to God, begging him to intervene on a situation in your life...and then nothing. You know good and well that he is the only one with the power to handle it and yet, nothing. His only answer (that you can conclude) is "wait."

Honestly, it can be so frustrating at times. You ask yourself, "why is he making me suffer...when is he going to work this out...what is he trying to teach me...why me?"

Sound familiar?

I know because I've been there.

Jesus did raise Lazarus from the dead. He knew all along what the outcome would be. He even cried with them in their suffering, because he loved them so much, and yet he still made them wait. Why?

I believe the answer lies in verse 40, when Jesus says...

 "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

Jesus waited 4 days, until Lazarus was good and dead (odor and all), so that there was NO QUESTION it was God who raised him!

God always has a plan and it is always better than we could have ever imagined. Sometimes we have to wait on it and though the wait is hard, it is worth it in the end...to encounter God in a way unlike ever before, to see him in all his glory and to know without a doubt that it is him.

Family Activity for the Week...

Together as a family, start a prayer journal or a prayer box. In it, have each person write prayer requests (either on the journal pages or on slips of paper to be put inside the box). As time passes, go back and read the old requests to see how God has answered them in time. Then write out praises (in the journal or on the slips of paper), thanking him for his provision. It is truly amazing to see how God works things out to his glory, in his timing, in ways we never could have imagined...and yet they are better than we could have ever dreamed. What a mighty God we serve!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

    neither are your ways my ways,” 

declares the Lord.

⁹ 

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, 

    so are my ways higher than your ways

    and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9

Hi there! Who's ready for Thrifty Love? I've got a few neat things to share this week. Each of them are now listed in my vintage etsy shop if anyone is interested.

I've heard one blogger or comment referring to buying their vintage items on etsy or ebay as cheating. Cheating cause you didn't really find the item yourself but rather you cheated by making the purchase on one of these sites. I do understand the point they are making however on the other hand I am TOTALLY about supporting small home based businesses like myself (my jewelry and now vintage etsy section) and see absolutely no problem with "cheating" making a purchase on one of these sites for something you like. When you do this you really DO impact the bottom line of REAL people!

So what do you think of that? Do you think its cheating when you buy a vintage item on etsy or ebay or do you see it as supporting small businesses/real people? If you see it as cheating than just figure it's cheating for a good cause lol!

Making PEACE Come Alive in Your Home

She had been bleeding for twelve years. Twelve years, with no end in sight.

Can you imagine?

Maybe you can. Maybe you have been suffering for sometime now.

"She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors, yet instead of getting better she grew worse."

Can you relate?

She knew that if she could just get to Jesus, just touch His robe, she would be healed.

She did. And she was.

"Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

All He asks is that we come to Him. He will take care of the rest.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 

{1 Peter 5:7}

Does He always promise healing? Unfortunately not.

But He does promise peace.

Sometimes He calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.

Family Activity for the Week...

Make a large cross out of wood, branches, construction paper, poster board or whatever materials you have on hand. It can be as simple or as creative as you want it to be.

Hang it on a wall in your home or on your refrigerator and have each family member write something that they are worried/stressed/anxious about onto a piece of paper and then "nail" it to the cross (you can attach it with glue, tape, etc) symbolizing their commitment to give it over to God, allowing Him to replace their suffering with the peace that passes all understanding despite circumstances or outcomes, the kind of peace that can only come from Him. Be sure to leave a comment and let us know how it went.

Update: Super excited to share that this project was featured in Country Sampler Special Gardens Issue!!!

I wanted to share this wheelbarrow water fountain that my husband took upon himself to build. I did NOT ask him to do this! It was something he saw one day while he was out working. He took a picture and decided to build it! I love when he does things to beautify without me asking.

Water pours out of the wheelbarrow and looks like it's spilling out, onto the ground. It sounds great! Love it!

Geez look at all that junk in the background!

If you've been around for any of my Thrifty Love link parties, (by the way there is one going on now) you know I like old junk. lol! In the yard we call it garden junk, and most of what you see in the background still needs to be made into it's "purpose" lol! LOTS of ideas, just not enough time!
