Sadly when you're a kid learning about this history you don't always give it much thought. Now that I am older I have a better understanding and appreciation for what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did to fight for equality and against racial discrimination. The thing that I find most crazy is that this was not that long ago. Can you imagine?

Occasionally I browse my local dollar stores and find items that I like to call standout items. Items that just seem to catch your attention because they are neat, different, useful or quality items. Here are a few that I recently came across. These are all form my local Dollar Tree.
Crayola Twist Markers

Ceramic Bobble Heads for painting. - These are going into our summer box! Starting a summer box right now that we will fill with activities that we find through the year that will come in handy for summer use.
Cute Valentine Stamp for Teacher! Wish is was red or pink though.

Now these next two aren't necessarily standout but they are quite handy.

 And these cello Basket Bags are exactly the perfect size for our Diaper Cake!

Is this card cute or what?!
Don't you hate when you forget to buy a card? I sure do! It's a good thing I have my trusty crafty stuff cause I was able to make this adorable card with items I had on hand. And it's way cuter than any store bought card. I found this tutorial a looooong time ago and knew it would come in handy one day. Check it out and all it's cuteness!
It was the perfect card to go with the diaper cake! And I love the fact that when you change up the paper you will get a totally different look. Thanks Laurin for sharing your tutorial!

DIY Diaper Cake

Have you seen these diaper cakes? I've seen them online upwards around $80! Yikes! Wanted to make one for a friend and boy am I happy with the way it turned out.
I found this great tutorial here from Susie Stamp a Lot. It leaves you with what you see below. She does go on in another tutorial how she decorated it but I wanted mine a bit different.

I wrapped receiving blankets around each layer. Use clothes pins to hold them in place just long enough to get a ribbon tied around them like below. First fold and iron blankets to the width of the diapers.
The bottom layer was too big around for just one blanket to cover it so I used two like so on the back side.
Next use some paper shred to cover the diapers. You could leave them exposed if you like but I wanted them covered.
I added a rubber duck to the top too! Sooooo cute!
Lastly I placed it in a large cello bag and tied a bow!
I'm kinda in love with it!
It was well received at the shower! One lady even asked if they could place orders for them! Fun! Can you believe there is even baby powder and a bottle on the inside?!!

Popping in to say hi, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!!! We had a wonderful Christmas, Christmas Vacation, and New Year! So great to take a bit of time off to spend with the family. Hope you had a great Christmas too.

One Christmas gift I am particularly excited about is this one book. (Though I did get other great gifts and I love them all!)

City on Our Knees by Toby Mac on audio of course cause I hate reading! Yep sure do. Anyway this baby will get me through some morning treadmill sessions. (One of those resolutions but that's another post.)

We will be back into the swing of things soon. Got plans, ideas and projects, many of which are included in those dreaded New Year's resolutions. EEK!
