DIY Diaper Cake

Monday, January 10, 2011

Have you seen these diaper cakes? I've seen them online upwards around $80! Yikes! Wanted to make one for a friend and boy am I happy with the way it turned out.
I found this great tutorial here from Susie Stamp a Lot. It leaves you with what you see below. She does go on in another tutorial how she decorated it but I wanted mine a bit different.

I wrapped receiving blankets around each layer. Use clothes pins to hold them in place just long enough to get a ribbon tied around them like below. First fold and iron blankets to the width of the diapers.
The bottom layer was too big around for just one blanket to cover it so I used two like so on the back side.
Next use some paper shred to cover the diapers. You could leave them exposed if you like but I wanted them covered.
I added a rubber duck to the top too! Sooooo cute!
Lastly I placed it in a large cello bag and tied a bow!
I'm kinda in love with it!
It was well received at the shower! One lady even asked if they could place orders for them! Fun! Can you believe there is even baby powder and a bottle on the inside?!!
Have you ever made a diaper cake?

  4. This is SO incredibly IRONIC that you post this today! I have been asking my friends if they knew how to make one of these. I am putting together my first baby shower for a friend and I just decided last night that I should make one of these. I was going to look on youtube when I got home from work! Weird! Thanks so much! Now I don't have to search!

  5. I really like your idea of receiving blankets around the outside. I forget what I covered my outside with but I don't think it was blankets. I am with you when I saw the price tags on-line I KNEW I could do it just as well. Yours is so cute....good job.

  11. I love this! I'll definitely have to make one of these for the next baby shower I go attend. I always have a hard time buying for them because I hate to just throw a few things in a bag! I love that I can be creative with this!

  14. This is a precious variation! I've never seen one where the diapers were "hidden." My little sister made one for me last weekend: http://enjoylifeandlove.blogspot.com/2011/01/diaper-cake.html

  22. That is the cutest diaper cake i have ever seen! I actually just made my first tonight and it was fun! I wish i would have seen your site so I could have made it with cloth. I ended up attaching bottles and butterflies to add to it.

  23. I love your diaper cake but I don't know if you should cover the tiers. Your diaper logs are so uniform! On most diaper cakes, they are kind of sloppy. Maybe a 2 inch wide ribbon for each tier would look better since you could see the diaper logs better!
